Eversys E2 — PSSR examination & servicing
E2 machines are used in busy self-service sites needing two bean hoppers and continuous output nationwide. The engineer carries out the statutory PSSR examination, the front-end service and the water treatment on this model — a standalone examination is £265 + VAT, or £645 + VAT with the service included.
Quick answer
Does a Eversys E2 need a PSSR examination?
Yes, if it operates in a workplace. It carries a single steam boiler with its own protective devices, which is the pressure system in scope. Steam is a relevant fluid under PSSR 2000 and steam systems are covered at any pressure and any volume, so the boiler must have a Written Scheme of Examination and be examined periodically by a competent person.

The machine
Why the E2 matters to the Eversys owner
The larger of the two E2 variants, with a bigger sealed boiler than the E2m and a 3.1 bar design rating.
In practice you will find it in busy self-service sites needing two bean hoppers and continuous output — which shapes what the examination looks like on site: how the machine is accessed, how long it can be offline, and how much scale it has accumulated.
On the day
- The steam boiler is located and examined. On a sealed stainless vessel the examination is external — wall thickness, corrosion at fittings, and the condition of every connection — with internal inspection by borescope only where the vessel design allows access.
- The safety valve, expansion valve, pressure sensor and thermal cut-outs are identified, checked and function tested.
- The pressure gauge is verified against our calibrated test gauge, not against itself.
- The vessel is small and sealed, so there is no drain-down and refill to wait for. The time goes on getting to it, which is why the brew unit and panels come off.
- The Written Scheme of Examination records the vessel as sealed and sets out the external examination and the protective devices it relies on.

All prices exclude VAT. A single steam boiler with one set of protective devices to examine. We confirm the exact figure on the call.
Filters are fitted on site by an engineer and are not posted out. The filter price applies when ordered with a PSSR examination, service, call-out or water test; booked alone it is charged at the standard call-out.
What we see on this model
- 7 litre sealed steel boiler — large for an automatic, and the reason the E2 is examined more like a small traditional machine than a countertop unit.
- Two grinders and two brew paths mean more to dismantle before the vessel is even reachable.
- Eversys parts are proprietary and dealer-supplied. The safety valve is a three-part rebuild kit rather than a valve you can buy off the shelf, and the annual parts kit runs into several hundred pounds. We quote those separately, before fitting.
- Single group, one coffee boiler, one grinder, one display. Steam boiler is 8 L on the plain steam build and 5.6 L on the milk build. Eversys sells separate service-kit sets for the E-line and Enigma generations of the same model number, so quote the generation when ordering.
- A standalone Eversys preventative maintenance visit runs £300–£600 on the open market for labour plus the mandatory manufacturer kit, and an inclusive contract £1,000–£2,200 a year. Our published bundle covers the labour and the examination; the Eversys service kit itself is charged at cost with the visit, because kit prices move with the model and the cycle count. Eversys build the machine from removable modules, so a module swap is quick work compared with stripping a traditional group.
Verified boiler data
What is actually inside this machine
| Configuration | Steam boiler |
|---|---|
| E'2 Enigma (1 coffee boiler) | 5.4 L |
| e'2 Eline (1 coffee boiler) | 8.0 L |
Manufacturer's published boiler capacities. Where a maker publishes no figure we say so rather than estimate. Steam boiler differs by generation: 5.4 litres on Enigma, 8 litres on Eline. Both carry a 1.5 litre coffee boiler. Our own field records spanned 6.0 to 8.0 litres, which is exactly what a mixed fleet of the two generations looks like.
Service interval. Eversys E-line service kits are scheduled by cycles and time together. Brew, steam and milk kits are 12-month items; grinder, hydraulic and frame kits are 24-month items; each kit is sized for 100,000 cycles (Eversys e'Support kit tables).
What a service covers
- ›Brew unit module cleaned and its 12-month kit fitted
- ›Grinder checked and recalibrated; burrs assessed against wear limits
- ›Steam and milk modules serviced on their own 12-month kits
- ›Water filter renewed and the boiler safety devices and pressure checked
- ›Firmware and telemetry reviewed remotely before the visit where the machine reports
Fault finder
What actually goes wrong on a Eversys E2
Owners usually call us with a symptom, not a diagnosis. This is what that symptom most often turns out to be on this machine, and what putting it right involves.
| Symptom | Usual cause | What fixes it |
|---|---|---|
| Machine halts mid-service, 'brewing unit blocked' / brew unit will not initialise (W-011, W-012, S-020) | coffee and oil build-up plus worn top/bottom piston rod seals make the brew piston too stiff for the motor to home | strip and clean the brew unit, fit the piston-rod fitting and o-rings from the brew PM kit, re-initialise. |
| Drinks run slow, 'water flow too low' (W-004/W-005) | Eversys' own order: water supply, grinder set too fine, overloaded powder chute, then an exhausted water filter, scale at the flowmeter gives the same reading | check supply and filter counter first, then grind, then hydraulic side. |
| No steam or milk, coffee still pours, E-102/E-103 fill timeout or E-104 heating timeout | closed supply, blocked filter, failed inlet valve, scaled filling line, E-106/E-107 are sensor or stuck contactor instead | supply and inlet valve for the timeouts, sensor and cable for E-107, element circuit and contactor for the overheat pair. |
| Grinder runs on and machine shuts down (E-021), or 'grinder blocked' (W-068/W-069) | three causes Eversys separates: grind too fine, stone in the burrs, or a failed triac on the power board | coarser grind and clear the obstruction, if E-021 is logged the power board triac is the suspect, not the grinder. |
| Machine refuses all coffee until cleaned (S-017) | cleaning-ball dispenser light barrier dirty, or ball blocked/broken, so the machine believes it was cleaned without detergent and locks out | refill or replace balls, clean the light barrier, complete a clean with a ball detected. |
| Time and date lost at every power cycle (W-027/W-028) | display battery dead | replace the display. |
| Grinder runs on endlessly and the machine shuts down (E-021). | Eversys: the machine detected the grinder motor turning endlessly and cut power to protect it; the documented cause is a defective triac on the power board. | Check/replace the power-board triac (100 253, 25 A 800 VAC). Do not change the grinder motor first. |
| No steam or hot water, coffee still pours; 'timeout during steam boiler filling' (E-103). | Steam boiler failed to fill in time: water tap closed, steam-boiler fill nozzle blocked (often an exhausted water filter), or water supply problem. | Open the supply, check/replace the water filter, clean the fill nozzle, then re-run the fill. |
| Steam boiler never reaches pressure (E-104), typically after a cold start. | Heating timeout - 20 minutes after initialisation, 10 minutes during operation - usually a tripped thermal circuit breaker (klixon) on the heating element. | Reset the klixon on the element; if it trips again, resistance-test the element and check the steam triac. |
| Drinks run slow, 'water flow left too low' (W-004), flow under 0.3 tick/s. | Eversys' own order: water inlet closed or supply fault, grinder set too fine, overloaded powder chute, blocked piston-head screen, bypass valve, or an exhausted water filter. | Work that order: supply, then grind, then pump pressure (should be 9-10 bar), then screen and bypass valve, then filter. |
| Machine refuses all coffee until it is cleaned (S-017). | Cleaning-ball dispenser light barrier dirty, or a ball blocked/broken, so the machine believes it was cleaned without detergent and locks out. | Clear or replace the balls, clean the light barrier, run a clean with a ball detected (Cleaning Ball Test in Service Functions). |
These are faults documented for this model, not a generic list.

Questions
E2 questions, answered
How a boiler of this size is examined, how often, and who carries the duty — see the complete PSSR guide.
0208 037 9340
How much does a PSSR examination cost on a Eversys E2?
A standalone examination is £265 + VAT, because a single steam boiler with one set of protective devices to examine. Combined with a front-end service it is £645 + VAT, which is what most busy self-service sites needing two bean hoppers and continuous output choose, since the boiler has to be drained for the examination either way. The bundle on this range is higher than our standard ladder because its service parts are proprietary: a manufacturer service kit and an OEM safety valve cost several times the generic equivalents, and on some models there is no generic equivalent at all. We confirm the exact figure on the call.
How often does a Eversys E2 need examining?
The Written Scheme of Examination sets the interval, and for a commercial machine used in busy self-service sites needing two bean hoppers and continuous output it is typically 12 to 14 months. A single boiler on this duty normally sits at the middle of that range unless the water is hard, which we test on the day and report with the certificate.
How long does a Eversys E2 examination take, and what happens on the day?
The vessel is small and sealed, so there is no drain-down and refill to wait for. The time goes on getting to it, which is why the brew unit and panels come off. The visit runs: the steam boiler is located and examined. on a sealed stainless vessel the examination is external — wall thickness, corrosion at fittings, and the condition of every connection — with internal inspection by borescope only where the vessel design allows access. the safety valve, expansion valve, pressure sensor and thermal cut-outs are identified, checked and function tested. The gauge is then verified against our calibrated test gauge, the system is pressure tested and held, and the machine is re-assembled, refilled, heated and function tested. The Written Scheme of Examination, signed report and asset record follow within 48 hours.
