PSSR inspections in Croydon & South London

Croydon is the largest commercial centre in South London outside the centre, and its coffee estate looks different from the inner boroughs: managed high-street chains, hotel and leisure sites, a large office and civic footprint, and independents around South End and Surrey Street. Much of the equipment is on a national contract that covers maintenance and not statutory examination — which is where we come in. PSSR examinations from £265 + VAT.

Quick answer

Do coffee machines in Croydon & South London need a PSSR examination?

Yes, wherever the machine operates in a workplace. Steam is a relevant fluid under PSSR 2000, and steam systems are in scope at any pressure and any volume — so a commercial machine with a steam boiler needs a Written Scheme of Examination and periodic examination by a competent person, whatever its group count or how hard it is worked.

Scheduling in Croydon

  • Town-centre loading. Croydon's town-centre loading restrictions are enforced through the day, and the Whitgift and Centrale areas have their own service arrangements. Give us the service yard or bay at booking.
  • Tram and one-way system. The tram network and the one-way gyratory affect how a visit is routed. It is not a problem, but it does mean we plan arrival to avoid the school and commuter peaks.
  • Outer-London travel. Croydon and the CR postcodes are inside our standard travel zone, so there is no mileage surcharge on published prices.

What the Croydon sites look like

The premises mix decides what the examination involves, what tends to fail, and how the visit has to be scheduled.

Managed high-street chains

National maintenance contracts rarely include the PSSR examination, because it is a duty-holder obligation rather than a repair. Franchisees and area managers are frequently the ones who discover the gap.

Hotels and leisure

Croydon's hotel and leisure sites run machines across breakfast service, banqueting and bars. Multi-machine sites renew better as one date than as several.

South End and Surrey Street independents

Owner-operated sites in the older street grid, often on equipment that has been in place through two or three changes of ownership.

The machines we are called to in Croydon

The price of the examination follows the machine's boiler configuration, so it is worth checking which of these you have before you call. Every one has its own page covering the examination scope for that model and the rate it carries.

Local questions

Croydon questions, answered

For the statutory background — who the duty holder is, what a Written Scheme must contain and when the next examination falls due — read the complete PSSR guide.

0208 037 9340

My machine is on a national maintenance contract. Is the PSSR examination included?

Usually not. Maintenance contracts cover repairs and planned servicing; the statutory examination under PSSR 2000 is a separate duty that sits with the operator or the asset owner. It is worth checking the contract wording, because if the examination is not named in it, nobody is doing it.

Do you cover the CR postcodes without a travel charge?

Yes. Croydon and the surrounding CR districts sit inside our standard travel zone, and travel is included in published prices across London and the Essex corridor.

Can you examine a hotel with machines on several floors?

Yes, and we would examine them in one visit. Hotels typically run a breakfast machine, a banqueting machine and a bar machine — three separate pressure systems with three separate examination clocks. Combining them into a single renewal date makes the compliance file much easier to manage.
