PSSR inspections in Soho & Fitzrovia

Soho and Fitzrovia trade seven days a week and much of the estate is residential above the shopfront, which shapes everything about how a job is done here: access is the constraint, not the work. PSSR.uk examines commercial coffee machine steam boilers across W1 and WC1 from £265 + VAT, scheduled into the narrow window between the last cover and the first delivery.

Quick answer

Do coffee machines in Soho & Fitzrovia need a PSSR examination?

Yes, wherever the machine operates in a workplace. Steam is a relevant fluid under PSSR 2000, and steam systems are in scope at any pressure and any volume — so a commercial machine with a steam boiler needs a Written Scheme of Examination and periodic examination by a competent person, whatever its group count or how hard it is worked.

What each visit includes

Scheduling in Soho

  • Congestion Charge zone. All of W1 and WC1 sits inside the Congestion Charge zone. We route Soho and Fitzrovia work into a single charging window so a multi-site day does not multiply the charge onto your invoice.
  • Loading restrictions. Oxford Street, Regent Street, Charing Cross Road, Tottenham Court Road and Shaftesbury Avenue are red routes with no stopping. The grid behind them is largely pedestrianised or single-yellow with residential controls. Tell us your nearest legal loading point.
  • Residential noise and hours. There are flats above most of these premises. Anything involving noise — pressure release, hammering, machine movement — is kept inside permitted hours, and we will not run a boiler test at 6am next to a bedroom wall if it can be sequenced later in the visit.

The local estate

What the Soho sites look like

The premises mix decides what the examination involves, what tends to fail, and how the visit has to be scheduled.

Restaurants and bars with a coffee offer

In Soho the espresso machine usually sits behind a bar in a basement or back-of-house, not in a dedicated café. Draining a boiler in a basement kitchen needs a plan for where the water goes.

Small-footprint specialty cafés

W1 sites are tight: single-group and compact two-group machines in rooms with no spare floor. We work in the footprint we are given and bring our own containment.

Members' clubs and private dining rooms

Discretion matters. These are quiet, appointment-driven visits, often early morning, and never during service.

Machine mix

The machines we are called to in Soho

The price of the examination follows the machine's boiler configuration, so it is worth checking which of these you have before you call. Every one has its own page covering the examination scope for that model and the rate it carries.

Can you examine a machine in a Soho basement?

Yes — basement and back-of-house machines are the norm in W1. The practical questions are where the boiler water can be discharged, how the machine can be reached if it needs to come forward, and whether there is a stopcock we can isolate. We ask for photos when booking and bring pumps and containment where the drain is above the machine.

Do you charge extra for the Congestion Charge?

No. It is built into how we route the week rather than added to your invoice. We cluster Soho and Fitzrovia work so one vehicle makes several visits inside a single charging window, which is why published prices hold across W1.

How early can you attend?

From 06:00 for sites that need to be trading-ready by 07:00. Restaurants and bars that close late are usually better served by an after-close visit, and we will book whichever causes you less disruption.
