PSSR inspections in Stratford & the Olympic Park

Stratford and the Olympic Park are the newest commercial estate in East London: a large shopping centre, a stadium and events calendar, a university campus, and East Village's residential-and-retail mix. Coffee here runs to schedule — event days, campus terms, mall hours — and access is arranged through estate management rather than a shopfront key. PSSR.uk examines steam boilers across E15 and E20 from £265 + VAT.

Quick answer

Do coffee machines in Stratford & the Olympic Park need a PSSR examination?

Yes, wherever the machine operates in a workplace. Steam is a relevant fluid under PSSR 2000, and steam systems are in scope at any pressure and any volume — so a commercial machine with a steam boiler needs a Written Scheme of Examination and periodic examination by a competent person, whatever its group count or how hard it is worked.

What each visit includes

Scheduling in Stratford

  • Centre and estate booking. Stratford's managed estates require a booked slot and often a permit. We send engineer details, insurance and method statements in advance so the booking clears first time.
  • Event calendar. On stadium event days the whole area becomes a controlled zone. Give us your event dates at booking and we will avoid them entirely.
  • Trading hours. Centre retail opens early and the concourse fills quickly. The 06:00–08:00 window is the one we hold for E15 and E20 work.

What the Stratford sites look like

The premises mix decides what the examination involves, what tends to fail, and how the visit has to be scheduled.

Shopping-centre and concourse units

Mall units trade to centre hours with service access before opening. We book the pre-open window and work through the service corridor.

Event and stadium hospitality

Machines in hospitality suites are used intermittently and are the easiest to overlook. They still hold steam under pressure and still need a Written Scheme of Examination.

East Village and campus sites

Residential-retail mixes and university buildings with multiple outlets. These are multi-machine sites where consolidating examination dates pays for itself.

The machines we are called to in Stratford

The price of the examination follows the machine's boiler configuration, so it is worth checking which of these you have before you call. Every one has its own page covering the examination scope for that model and the rate it carries.

Can you access managed estate and shopping-centre units?

Yes. It means working to a booked slot and supplying engineer details, insurance and method statements in advance, plus attending an induction where the estate requires it. We do this as standard for E15 and E20 work.

How do you handle event days?

We avoid them. If your site sits inside a controlled zone on event days, tell us the dates and we will schedule outside them. Where a machine has to be examined before an event, we book the visit into the quiet period beforehand.

Do intermittent machines still need examining?

Yes. A machine used only for hospitality or events is still a pressure system in a workplace, and the duty under PSSR 2000 does not depend on how often it runs. Intermittent use is actually a reason to look at it more carefully, because corrosion and seal degradation are more likely in equipment that stands idle.
